An open seminar, entitled “What should be in the Korean Christian Museum?”, was held on May 30th, 2014 in the Zoe-Hall of the Christian Building with about 70 participants in attendance.

Rev. Kim Young-ju, the General Secretary of the NCCK told the group in his opening address to the seminar that he was keenly aware of how important knowing history is, and added his hope that the seminar would be a significant opportunity to establish the Museum on a more solid footing.

The main speakers at this seminar were Dr. Kim Kwon-jeong of National Museum of Korean Contemporary History and Prof. Lim Hee-kook of Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Dr. Kim made a presentation about the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History which was opened in 2012. He advised that it is important to firmly establish the identity of any Museum and to harmonize both the universality and the speciality of a history museum.  He emphasized, in the case of the Korean Christian Museum, how important it is to collect an inclusive representative exhibit to show the meaning of historical events and culture of Korean Christianity and to plan permanent exhibits for educating the syntactic history of Korean Christianity.

Prof. Lim analyzed the National Archives of the PCUSA and talked about the history, facilities, budgets, management, PR and the membership system of those Archives, aspects of which can be applied to assist and propel the establishment of the Korean Christian Museum.  80 percent of the budget for the Archives is appropriated from the general budget of PCUSA and the 20 percent is from donations. He emphasised how important it is that fundraising activity and profit-making business be considered from the start by the management of the Museum.

After the two presentations, participants exchanged views on the establishment of the Museum.
