REUNIFICATION NEWS

NCCK was joined by important guests during the first week in April, General Secretary of the WCC, Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit and a team from Geneva.

The main purpose of this visit was follow-up to the General Assembly, as well as to visit partners to thank them for the work done by the Koreans for the Assembly. Mr. Peter Prove came with the General Secretary; he has replaced Mathews George as Director of CCIA (Commission of the Churches on International Affairs), which relates directly to the Korean Ecumenical Forum.

The Committee of Reconciliation and Unification had two intense meetings with the delegation from Geneva. The WCC people made it clear that after the 10th General Assembly, there was a high level of commitment to Korean issues of peace and reunification on the peninsula.

The CCIA is preparing a 4-year plan to work consistently to encourage WCC member churches to participate in ongoing work to bring about one Korea. WCC is also interested in expanding the Ecumenical Forum membership and give it wider global participation.

One exciting item of news received from the WCC people, was that they had received a letter from KCF of North Korea, promising to come to Geneva in June for the meeting of Ecumenical Forum, and requesting a consultation on issues of concern in the future of Korea.

KCF and NCCK will prepare a liturgy and joint prayer for peaceful unification for the Sunday before Aug. 15 Korean Independence Day (which this year will take place on Aug. 10).
