WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
This annual service took place on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Mokmin Presbyterian Church. Using the service written by the Canadian Council of Churches, we reflected on the passage from I Corinthians 1:13, “Is Christ divided?” Just having experienced the World Council of Churches General Assembly, and having seen the diversity of Christian experiences gathered together as one in Busan, it was a very pertinent question. Catholic Archbishop Kim Hee Jun preached, and the high point of the service was when the representative leaders of each denomination presented the special gift of their denomination to the gathering… from the Orthodox, an icon to represent deep spirituality and the life of prayer; from the NCCK, a cross wreathed in flowers, to remind of both suffering and new life that comes from following Jesus; from the Methodists, a stole to represent the service to which Christ calls; and so on.
