[PRAYER FOR ENVIRONMENT SUNDAY]

WATER OF GRACE

God of this beautiful and orderly-created world, we thank you that you enable

us to come before today you to celebrate Environment Sunday.

In this time we confess before you. We confess that this creation, graciously

made by the Lord, cannot be the possession of any one person. We confess

that the water we drink is a precious gift given by God to share peacefully with

all people in partnership. We confess that we are called to save and preserve

this precious gift.

But contrary to our confession the evidence before us shows a shameful

reality. Numerous people of poor countries are deprived of clean drinking water

and thereby become ill. Water is monopolized by excessive development, and

polluting industries become wealthy. On the one hand we worry about drinking

water; on the other we waste water as a tool of pleasure and hence inevitably

destroy God’s order of creation.

Lord of creation, show compassion on this world. In this time we intercede

before you. Please unite our minds in one spirit so that we conduct this

Environment Sunday with the aim of restoring God’s order of creation. Help us

to realize that in caring for your precious gift of water, even small activities are

a great step to restore your order of creation. Each attempt and practice helps

enable all neighbours of the global village have clean water to drink.

In the name of Jesus Christ who rendered his life for our salvation we pray.
