Annual Consultation

On the 29th and 30th of April, about 90 NCCK members, ecumenical workers and local NCC members gathered for the NCCK Annual Consultation held at St. Jung Ha Sang Retreat Center, Sejong City, guided by the theme “Transition of the Ecumenical Movement through Reflection and Awakening.”.

On the first day, former moderator of NCCK, Rt. Rev. Park Kyung Jo of the Anglican Church of Korea preached at the Opening Service, followed by three main speakers who gave the participants practical challenges for the transition of the ecumenical movement.  Rev. Lee Hong Jung spoke about the role of Denominations in coming together and cooperation; Rev. Yang Jae Sung, about what must happen in the civil Christian movement, among the Christian NGO’s; and Rev. Park Song Ryul, about what local incumbent pastors can and must do to foster an ecumenical spirit.

This was followed by a workshop, in which the day’s participants identified themes they took from the keynote addresses, and then divided into groups to come up with concrete goals to awaken ecumenism in our society.  Some of the topics were: Spirituality of Ecumenism, Role of Local Churches in Ecumenism; Church Reform for Ecumenism; Theology of Ecumenism; Role of the Laity in Ecumenism; and Budgeting for Ecumenism.

On the second day, Mr. Min Sung Sik, a journalist from News Mission spoke under the title “Overview of the WCC 10th General Assembly”. After that all participants gathered in a circle and each shared their thoughts, vision and hopes for the General Assembly.
