Stop the brutal invasion on Iraq!

Ignoring the world's citizens' eagerness for peace and the U.N.'s efforts at negotiation, President Bush's Administration began the war with Iraq. By means of 'shock and awe' he turned the world into a savage killing field. Imperialistic greed prompted the Bush Administration to attack without even minimal international agreement. The war on Iraq, without the request of other countries to remove weapons of mass destruction or punish the regime's support for terrorism, is a debasing crime against the nations of the world. In behaving like a brutal beast of the jungle and rejecting international opinion under the guise of establishing democratic government in Iraq, President Bush's has proven his hypocrisy and deceptive self contradiction.

Furthermore, it makes us shudder that President Bush uses the language of the
Christian Faith to present this brutal, bloody conflict as a Holy War against the 'Axis of Evil.' He devalues the respect for life and peace held by every religion and promotes the fundamentalists, justifying their aggressive and violent beliefs. During Lent, we Church Women meditate, make sacrifices and pray for the reconciliation of Jesus Christ. We do so in the disturbing knowledge that the language of the faith which justifies us, has been used by unjust and hypocritical powers throughout history and into the 21st Century.

Deriding every effort of the International Community, under the excuse of removing weapons of mass destruction, President Bush chose invasion. Therefore, in using weapons of mass destruction to secure oil in the Middle-East, he both contradicts himself and confirms the USA as the only superpower. This horrifying choice will cause the deaths of innocent people, including women and children, and irredeemable devastation. He may even regard the war field as a playground for experimenting with a new weapon. Stop the war right now! Stop the killing of people immediately!

The Korean Government, with President Roh, Moo-Hyun, has become a member of
the Confederation of 30 countries supporting the USA. The Government is supporting the attack on Iraq and planning to dispatch non-combatants and medical troops to the Gulf. It is doing so at the cost of bringing a peaceful resolution of the North Korean Nuclear Crisis by means of the S. Korea-US Alliance. This immorality and dual consciousness at the heart of power and at the cost of the blood of Iraqi people, will result in a serious backlash of tension on and regarding the Korean Peninsula. This is not a realistic way to peace, it creates a more serious crisis. When peace in Korea is threatened, the International Community will not help because the country has been tainted with this immorality. President Roh, Moo-Hyun should, in accordance with his declared policy of just and fair government, cease his support for the US led coalition and his plan to dispatch troops to the Gulf.

The leaders of the 30 countries upholding the war should feel shame that it has created casualties and dropped the world into a fire of fear. The war has created an unhealable scar on the world. They should join the march for peace, turning from the meanness of supporting violence.

Being angry with President Bush's Administration and its immoral followers who have devastated peaceful coexistence and march for bloody killing, the Church Women's Alliance for Peace and Against War will do its best for world
peace in solidarity with World Church Women and other peacemakers throughout the world.
